What is rate of perceived exertion?

If you’ve integrated your smartwatch you’ll be familiar with having objective heart rate and calorie data for your workouts. This is a great way to track progress, workout intensity and overall performance but it’s not the whole story.

There are many factors that can impact your heart rate and therefore intensity based on heart rate alone can be misleading.

That’s why we’ve introduced the ability to record a rate of perceived exertion (RPE) each time you workout.

If you’re unfamiliar with RPE, it’s a system using a numeric scale to measure the intensity of a workout according to how it felt. RPE is your subjective rating of how the workout intensity felt. No biometrics, no readings, just how you felt.

For now we’ve added the ability to log RPE on the workout complete screen in the app. The value then shows in the workout details screen alongside your smartwatch data.

We’re working on adding the data to the progress and performance graphs so you can track it over time. Watch this space for more info.
